What is Child's Pose?

Child's pose, or balasana in Sanskrit, is a gentle forward fold that's often used as a counter pose to backbends. With the legs folded under the body, the yogi leans forward and rests their forehead on the ground. This position gently stretches the body while relieving stress and fatigue.

Instructions

  • Begin in thunderbolt pose with the legs folded under.
  • Exhale and bend forward, lowering the forehead to the floor.
  • Rest the arms alongside the body, palms facing up.
  • Breathe deeply while holding the pose.

Cautions

  • Support the head with a block or stacked fists if it does not reach the floor
