ACROVINYASA (TM)

Definition - What does ACROVINYASA (TM) mean?

ACROVINYASA (TM) is a trademarked name for one of several styles of yoga that incorporate acrobatics. Honza and Claudine Lafond developed ACROVINYASA (TM) and began teaching it in 2014. This practice includes vinyasa flow with a sequence of acrobatic asanas, both solo and with a partner.

The Lafonds describe their form of acrobatic yoga as taking yoga practice from the earth to the air. As with other styles of yoga asana practice, synchronizing the breath with movement is a key element of ACROVINYASA (TM), which is designed to build, strengthen and improve balance and flexibility while developing trust with yoga partners.

Yogapedia explains ACROVINYASA (TM)

There are two levels of vinyasa in ACROVINYASA (TM). Level 1 consists of 45 yoga asanas and 45 "acro" poses that are appropriate for yogis new to this style of yoga. The sequence starts with a traditional solo pose followed by a partner acro version of the same pose. For example, the first asana in Level 1 is front plank, which is followed by an acro version of front plank in which a second yogi serves as the base, lying on his/her back and supporting the first yogi on his/her extended arms and legs. A third person serves as a spotter. Level 2 also consists of 45 yoga and 45 acro asanas, but with more challenging postures. Inversion poses are also a key element of both levels.

Working with a partner and spotter, ACROVINYASA (TM) builds a sense of community and teamwork, thereby stimulating emotional and spiritual growth at a deeper level, developing communication with one's fellow yogis and providing insight into how each body works in unison with another's.
