Conversely Split Pose

Definition - What does Conversely Split Pose mean?

Conversely Split is a posture found in AcroYoga, a style in which traditional Hatha or Vinyasa Flow are combined with acrobatics. A key feature of AcroYoga is that it is practiced by two people together. Conversely Split is an intermediate level Belly Basing pose, in which one person provides the base (in contact with the ground) and the other person is a flyer (lifted off the ground by the base).

Yogapedia explains Conversely Split Pose

To practice Conversely Split, follow these steps with a partner:

  1. Begin with the base in Sphinx Pose (belly down supine posture, torso lifted and supported by forearms. Shoulders above elbows, forearms parallel with one another).
  2. Flyer: stand with feet either side of base's hips and place both hands on base's shoulders. Base: bend right knee to lift foot from the ground, flex right foot.
  3. Flyer: bring right foot to meet the sole of base's right foot, lift leg towards the sky to come into a split.

This pose may be held for as long as both practitioners can remain stable, and should be repeated on the other side. Conversely Split requires flexibility and upper body strength from the flyer, and a backbend from the base. As such, it is important to warm up the body properly before practicing this pose.
