Reclining Big Toe Pose

Definition - What does Reclining Big Toe Pose mean?

Reclining big toe pose is a supine yoga pose that greatly improves the practitioner's flexibility level.

For all but the most advanced practitioners, this pose is usually practiced with the assistance of a yoga strap. To enter this pose, the practitioner lies on the back with the legs fully stretched. The right leg is bent, bringing the knee to the chest so the yoga strap can be wrapped around the foot. Then the bound leg is extended straight up until it is perpendicular to the floor. To deepen the pose, the lifted leg can be tilted closer to the body.

This posture is then repeated on the other side. Those who practice this pose without a strap can grip the big toe of the active foot.

Reclining big toe pose is also called supta padangusthasana in Sanskrit.
