Definition - What does Revolved Chair Pose mean?

Revolved chair pose is a standing posture that is a twisted variation of chair pose. This posture combines the strengthening benefits of chair pose with the abdominal stimulation of a twist and additional opening up of the upper body. It requires both strength and flexibility to keep the body stable while the torso twists.

To enter the pose, begin in chair pose. The hands are brought together in the center of the chest, the body is revolved to one side and the elbow hooks over the opposite knee. The hands press together. The twist is then repeated on the opposite side.

The Sanskrit name for revolved chair pose is parivrtta utkatasana.
