Sahasrara Chakra Mantra

Definition - What does Sahasrara Chakra Mantra mean?

Sahasrara chakra mantra is the name given to any mantra associated with sahasrara, or crown chakra. Typically, it refers to the bija, or seed, mantra, which is associated with the chakra — in this case, om.

Chanting the sahasrara chakra mantra while focusing attention on the crown chakra is thought to help clear and balance the flow of prana. This can be done as a practice in itself, or some choose to chant the mantra while practicing an asana that also emphasizes connection with the chakra. For sahasrara chakra, this could be sirsasana, or headstand.

Yogapedia explains Sahasrara Chakra Mantra

The sahasrara chakra mantra, om, helps to cultivate a connection with the spirit and the whole universe or higher power. It can also help to reduce over-attachment to material things and the physical world. Some believe it stimulates the pituitary gland in the brain.

For some, om — which is also the bija mantra associated with ajna chakra — is not the most effective mantra for sahasrara chakra. Instead, they may choose to use silence or the mantra, ah, instead. Ah represents a sound of release and letting go.

Another alternative is to use a mantra in which the words connect to the energy of the chakra; for instance, “I surrender to the highest and best that seeks to emerge through me.”

Because manifestation is considered to begin in sahasrara chakra, where an idea is first imagined, the sahasrara chakra mantra may be used to connect with creativity and allow for better manifestation.
